If you have bought credits for Scotlandspeople, you can use 6 of those to view one of the deaths. As the reference numbers aren't consecutive, there may have been a few days between the deaths.

Lia Report 29 Jan 2018 16:50

i bought credits, can i use those?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jan 2018 16:40

And their deaths;

DIAMOND
JAMES
0
1924
644/14 231
Maryhill

DIAMOND
JOHN
0
1924
644/14 221
Maryhill

Each of their death certs can be viewed on SP at a cost of 6 credits (£1.50) - to check parents' names.

Cheaper than buying the birth certs, if that's the only reason you want to see them!

Looking for birth of twins -

for Scottish births after 1854, unfortunately it's not possible to use mother's maiden surname as a search term, and there are so many Diamond births that it's virtually impossible to know if any would be relevant to your family or not.

These two might be twins:

DIAMOND
JAMES
M
1924
644/14 596
Maryhill

DIAMOND
JOHN
M
1924
644/14 597
Maryhill

You'd have to buy their birth certs to see if they belonged to the correct family.

In Scotland, all deaths are indexed under both married and maiden surnames provided the information is given by the informant.

For example, one of my aunts married four times (she liked wedding cake). If I search for her death using only her first name and middle name, I get 5 results. 1 for each of her married surnames and 1 for her maiden surname.

Lia Report 29 Jan 2018 13:16

someone mentioned possible Twins born before my nana, that died. How would i find out please?

also if i was to search a death, do i search with their maiden name or their married name please?

Well done ArgyllGran. I still can't get onto SP :-)

If she died in England, her death would be registered there. Records online go up to 2006 on this and other subscription sites.
https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl goes up to about 1970.
(edit - Rootgather has found it)

If her estate went to probate, you can look for Calendar entries on
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/#wills
But entries don't give a date of birth. So far no one is sure what surname she'd have been registered under.

Yes it is possible to view all register entries, including recent ones either at the Scotlandspeople Centre in Edinburgh or The Mitchell Library in Glasgow. You can take notes from those registrations.

Has anyone ever visited the Scotlands Archive rooms?

If Mariposa could get to Edinburgh, would it be possible to search the images in person & take notes?

ArgyllGran, I can't even get the SP website to open today.

Lia

Lia Report 29 Jan 2018 12:41

hmmm, seems the Taylor may not be the same if the surname is Memsa. My Auntie said she wasnt sure if it was a Taylor so i may just scrap that bit for now.

Thank you for the divorce information, i was trying to piece together the route in which she married and divorced.

Also searching when Mary Lennon Died as she died whilst living in England. Do i search Scotland records for her death or England?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jan 2018 12:31

SP's still working, but it's very slow, and sometimes puts up error messages, or little "stop" signs.
You need patience - accept the error message, then immediately try your search again, which works.
Or if it's the "stop" sign, wait until it disappears, then try again.

You can find out Margaret's DOB from one of her marriage certs.

Her first marriage, to Malcolm, was in 1961 in Blythswood district of Glasgow.

The marriage to Francis was 1969, Glasgow. (If it's hers)

rootgatherer

rootgatherer Report 29 Jan 2018 12:26

If you search here

http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/overview.aspx?st=1&tc=y&tl=n&tn=n&tp=n&k=Margaret+Diamond&ko=a&r=&ro=s&df=1930&dt=&di=y

You will see Margaret's divorce from Mr. Morrison

Not sure the Margaret who married Francis Taylor is your Margaret though as she was also known by the surname Memsa.
