I suggest "syncone" is "syncope".

Don't know about anabed / anbabes, though.

EDIT:

OK, I've used some credits and had a look.

I think "anababes" is "probably"

Marcus

Marcus Report 16 Feb 2018 17:15

Thanks again ArgyllGran!!

Had another look myself and you are correct in saying 'Probably Syncope' as cause of death.

The writing isn't wonderful, but you did it. Thanks for taking a look for me.

Googled 'Syncope' and is described as 'fainting / loss of consciousness, caused by possible low blood pressure', etc..

Looking for 196 Nithsdale Road, I found this

details for Glengowan House, 196 Nithsdale Road, Glasgow G41 5EU
Detached house 10+ Beds, 7 Baths, 4 Receps - Edit
Zoopla Estimate: £736,000

Do you think it may have been a small private nursing home of sorts when your ancestor died there?

From memory, I was think that there are some pretty large detached houses in parts of Nithsdale Road.

"Most recently operated as a charitable residential care home" - although when you open the link it just says, "Sorry, this property is no longer available."

Perhaps more recently, a less savoury history - can't find the rest of this Google search result when I open the link:

As 1911 says she was born in Bunkle, this will probably be her birth:

It seems the most likely of the four Mary Anderson births in Berwickshire 1846-48

A big thank you to all who have helped me with this side of the family.

Thanks Chris for the various census, ArgyllGran & Rootsgatherer too.

I have look at ScotlandsPeople and have found that Adam's mother is called Alison, not Alice, but she may have been called this instead.

Mary Anderson - Adam's wife was daughter of William Anderson & Margaret Sparks, so ArgyllGran, you was right on this one!!

The information on 196, Nithsdale Road is invaluable - thanks for that.

As for Siblings of Elizabeth Broomfield, this is what is happening:-

Margaret 1875 - 1942, never married, Elizabeth 1877 - 1922 married Charles Grigson Alexander, Adam 1879 - 1880 died young, Mary Jane 1881 - 1949 Neve married and finally William 1885 - 1917, married Ida May Dewing (1883 - 1978) in 1912, had daughter - Kathleen 1914 - 1917!

So apart from William having a child, who died very young, I don't know if Charles' 2 daughters had any children of their own. If not, then this line comes to a stop right here.

As Charles Alexander is step-brother to my great grandfather, and not my direct ancestor, I am extremely glad to have found him, his wife and his 2 daughters after many, many years, I can, I feel, put him to rest now.

Unless, of course, anyone can find anything else...........??

Thanks!!

ArgyllGran Report 19 Feb 2018 12:35

From the 1940's, and at least until 1962, Doris and her husband were living at 40 Largie Road in the Cathcart area of Glasgow.

Their surname is too common to be able to tell if any of the births in Glasgow after 1940 are their children or not, without buying certs.

A boy with first names Leslie Alexander was born 1940 in Cathcart - maybe worth a punt?

Thanks ArgyllGran, I just saw the death entry the other day myself !!
I decided to buy the certificate because I thought it was the right entry. Please don't feel that you raised my hopes at all.

These things are all part of learning to find what is correct or not ! I took the decision to buy.

With further research, I am sure there will be a connection somewhere along the name.

So, here is the info on the certificate :-

Leslie Alexander Drummond, b 2nd November, 1940, at 73, Millborne Road, Glasgow.

Parents are - Donald Gunn Drummond, Yarn Merchant's Cashier, (Usual residence - 93, Battle Field Avenue, Glasgow),
& Catherine Burns Drummond M.S. Robertson. (Married 19th August, 1933, Blythswood, Glasgow).

Plot thickens...........
