Sue ...........

my brother, and only sibling, worked on the family history in the 1980s, and would gleefully write to let me know the latest find.

He died in 1990, and I so wish I could let him know what I've found out since I began researching in earnest in 2004.

Don't we all wish facts were - facts.

Since working on my tree around 15 years ago I have discovered so many misdirections (nicer word than lies). :-D

My only regret is that I have no siblings alive since 2004 to share with.

My grandfather was 2 days ... and 1 year out on his birthday. ;) Found out when he retired and had to get a birth certificate.

Probably a function of his mother dying when he was 9, and him being shunted from older sibling to older sibling for a few years.

This made him 4 months younger than my grandmother, rather than 8 months older. She was not pleased.

Sue

That is the difference between your guy and mine .............. everything fits with the Dec 25 1884 date, including his signing up in WW1 as a 34 year old married man with 3 children!

I think his parents must have celebrated his birthday on Dec 25 to save on buying presents 2 weeks apart.

It is only 2 weeks, but unless you buy his birth certificate, there is nothing to prove that date wrong!

supercrutch Report 18 Feb 2018 22:53

Sylvia, I am discounting the 1939 date as everything else fits nicely.

This is my son in law's family and I'm tracing ancestors for my grandkids' benefit when they are older.

Tonight I have found out that x times gt. grandpa was born in Wales. Gone full circle lolol

SylviaInCanada Report 18 Feb 2018 20:55

Sue .......

my grandfather would join your guy in causing problems to anyone who did not know what happened after his death.

His birth date on the 1939 is 25 Dec 1884

His birth date on his death certificate is 25 Dec 1884

His marriage certificate in 1902 says he was 18 which equals 1884 (Grandma said she was 20, when she was really 19!)

His birthday was always celebrated on Dec 25

Nope ............ his birth certificate was found after his death by my uncle and shows he was born Jan 9 1885. I have also bought a copy of it.

Only 2 weeks out, but ................

The 1939 DOB had completely baffled me. Working on the assumption he was an idiot ATM

Perhaps the 1939 is one year out- if he was born 5th December 1911, and birth was registered first quarter 1912?

Rambling

Rambling Report 17 Feb 2018 14:24

I wouldn't set much store by the DOB being correct on 1939, if the Edgar Reg march 1912, was born Dec 1911 then the year being out in 1939 wouldn't be unusual?

That's the one which I favour TBH as it keeps the 'sea' connection.

The one 'fact' that doesn't fit in is his stated DOB on the 1939 register where he is shown with his first wife.

*bangs head*

Edit: Silly me, he is living with his future wife's family and Ethel herself
