Thanks Roots - No wonder I couldn't find her with a 'Harry' !!!

That is certainly the correct family for the 1939 ones I posted as in 1939, her son John + his family were also living in the same house although they did not show together on the household transcription.

This seems to be the only Harry / Harold / Henry birth in that area in 1888 apart from the Henry Thompson Dixon

Bertie son said his granddads name was Harry Dixon born abt 1895 but not sure of his grandma name thought it might be Isabella

Mr. Joseph Brown Dixon, proprietor of the Keswick Steam Laundries, a native of Kendal, died suddenly at Keswick yesterday in his 61st year. He was educated at the Kendal Grammar School, and came to Keswick 26 years ago. He is survived by a widow, six sons and a daughter.

Well, the article linked above shows a great deal of detail and appears to be quite well researched! (thank you Chris) xx

According to this, it appears that we have the correct family!

There is the address of Penrith Road (on then 1939 register for Bertie and his mother Isabella), there, she is also shown as Laundry Proprietor and he, a Master Laundryman - the article links them with the Keswick Steam Laundr, which the family owned.

That links perfectly with the 1911 posted by rootgatherer where Isabella is married to Joseph B.

It would appear that Bertie's son is mistaken about his grandfather being 'Harry' (he may well have been referred to as Harry as a nickname??) but his grandmother 'was' an Isabella.

Harry Dixon b about 1895 would appear to be Bertie's uncle not his dad..it may be best to buy a copy of Bertie's birth certificate to confirm his parents names.

Harry Dixon died at the above address 8 May 1958 administration to Malvina Dixon widow.

I got that far but couldn't find a marriage for him to a Malvina !

However, I found them coming back from Canada - Harry, Malvina + 8 children.
