Ada's Father, Joseph Keegan, abandoned his wife and children in 1889, when they were taken into the Caistor workhouse. A warrant was issued for him when he was also known as John Smith. Apart from Caroline, her siblings all married locally and lived locally. The inquest into Ada's Mother, names her father as Joseph Francis Keegan. I have not been able to trace him on any census.
I have traced the family Thomas Lammin and Florence, Ada's sister, quite successfully.
I will pursue the electoral rolls for Burgess Street, when I next in the local library.

I must express my appreciation for everyone's help

I checked at 87 Orwell Street (where a Joseph Francis Keegan was listed in the directory in 1882)- can't see anything.

There is a John Smith (fisherman, born Brixham) at 86 Orwell Street, but he is with his wife Emma (had been for a long time).

Bruce- do you have the marriage certificate for Joseph and Mary Alice? Does it give an age and father's name and occupation for Joseph?

Off out now- will check back later

14 December 1897 - Hull Daily Mail - Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England

A DISAPPEARANCE REPORTED. Mr Major, 87, Orwell-street, reports to the Borough Police that his son (John Major) has been missing since Saturday night...(age 34, but actual home Lynn, where he has a wife and family, was one of a crew on board a smack)

19 September 1884 - Hull Packet - Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England

District News.
John Smith, fisherman, was charged with stealing a tea- pot, the property of Mary Ann Havercroft. The magistrates believed that Smith only intended the affair as a joke, and dismissed the charge

(probably husband of Emma one)

Joseph's age is given as 21 years and his father is John Keegan, gardener.
Address is simply Ayscough Street. Joseph was a fisherman.
In 1901 census Mary Alice Keegan, Joseph's wife, was living at 15 Orwell Street with Harriett Weston working as a charwoman.
