It's possible Margaret died and James maybe remarried or emigrated alone??
There are so many James Smiths of about the right age.

An interesting (to me, anyway) but irrelevant snippet -

Margaret's brothers William and John Robert both married Margarets.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 May 2018 17:41

It's possible that they emigrated, unless you know otherwise. Online records don't start until 1890

The earlier census for Margaret certainly fits with 1881 - perhaps circumstances forced James to change his line of work

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 2 May 2018 17:31

How did you work back to this couple?

Do you know anything about them to help us get accurate info?
