Thank you for the 1939 Register, I looked under similar names but got nothing

I am in touch with Ann in Canada whose grandmother was May Victoria Smeeton married to Thomas Vasey Trindale d/o Charles & Lilian.

Ann told me that Charles remarried & had a son (she is trying to find to who) they both died in a car going over an embankment whilst they were on their way to a Symphony Concert, this is all I know to this date

Hmmm -

so Charles was in the Irish Guards in 1900 ? He must have been one of the first -

The Irish Guards Regiment was formed by Royal Warrant of Queen Victoria in 1900 to commemorate the contribution of the Irish soldiers during the Second Boer War. The Regiment was then stationed on ceremonial duties until the outbreak of the First World War.

So in 1901 he should have been somewhere in the UK, even if not actually with Lilian.

ArgyllGran Report 27 May 2018 18:27

If Charles was in the Irish Guards, perhaps he was abroad with the Army on census dates.

I don't see Lilian and Amy/Annie in 1901, either with or without Charles.
Nor Muriel/Lucy.

You said Charles had a second marriage, Ellen. Who was the second wife?

I have been looking for Lilian Elizabeth Smeeton on the 1939 Register, the only likely one is a Lilian E Wood 7/6/1874 with a Charles W Wood born 13/2/1914 could he be related to her sister's husband John Wood born abt 1876

1911 Lilian Elizabeth Smeeton with her children were visiting her sister Edith Annie Wood, who lived at 1 Cutlers Terrace, Balls Pond Road Islington

Did Lilian change her name to Wood?

According to the christening of Annie Lilian Mary on 1/5/1901 Charles was a bandsman with the Irish Guards, so there may be a military record for him?

Murial may have been Lucy as it the same birth year

So Albert born 1917 is Charles named as his father. Or was Lilian having more children who weren't Charles

Seems strange that two girls went into Barnardos and were sent as BHC children

Have you applied for their records

It is possible though they were in the workhouse and just sent by Barnardos.i have come across that in my searches

I belong to the BHC children group on Facebook and often do look ups for descendents of BHC children

Ellen

Ellen Report 27 May 2018 09:06

I think Charles must have still been with Lilian after Albert L birth in 1917
