Where have you found Sarah's baptism date, please?
Usually a baptism record would at least name the father.

I don't see it on either Ancestry or FamilySearch.

There seem to have been several Sarah Hawtins (or similar).
Here's another baptism - just to muddy the waters:

Sarah Hawtyn
England Births and Christenings
Name Sarah Hawtyn
Gender Female

Thanks, just been sifting through some more items, I found that Sarah died in 1842 aged 61 I wonder if Isabella is another daughter because it's strange there are only two show Harriet and Dorcas, because most families had more children than 2 I will pencil this one in and go on checking.

Isabella may have died before the 1841 census. (Or married).

Re Diana Durham - Dinah on marriage record?

Valentine Gardener
mentioned in the record of Valentine Gardener and Dinah Durham
Name Valentine Gardener
Spouse's Name Dinah Durham
Event Date 26 Dec 1786

She's also Dinah on earlier banns record.

However, I can't see her birth, or parents' names.

Ann Hawtin 1766 died 1843 in Hornton, couldn't this be the mother of Sarah nee Hawtin who she is with in 1841.

Tree on Ancestry.co.uk had John Hawtin 1746-1827 a widow married Ann Battie born 1752 married 6/12/1773 gave birth to Sarah 15/10/1779 you would have to check this out to confirm if it is your Sarah.

Robert's death in 1854

GASCOIGNE, ROBERT 72
GRO Reference: 1854 S Quarter in BANBURY UNION Volume 03A Page 463

Drat!

I was hoping Sarah would be alive in 1851 to get a better idea of where she was born, but this looks like her death

GASCOIGNE, SARAH 64
GRO Reference: 1842 S Quarter in BANBURY UNION Volume 16 Page 20

EDIT:-

Death age 64 in 1842 = birth year 1778

Age of 60 on 1841 Census could actually be anywhere between 60 and 64, as ages were rounded down to the nearest 5

Valerie ..........

where did you find Sarah's baptism date?

Where was she baptised?

Have you seen the Parish Register? That usually shows the father's name, or mother's name if she was illegitimate

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 28 Jun 2018 19:36

None the trees showing Sarah offer any proof of her DOB.

To repeat my question - where did you find Sarah's baptism date?
Baptism records usually show at least the father's name.

EDIT:
and Sylvia's also asking this!

Mary

Mary Report 28 Jun 2018 19:41

Sylvia mentioned Harriet's marriage -

just for the record:

Isaac Cotterill
in the Oxfordshire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1930
Name: Isaac Cotterill
Gender: Male
Age: Full Age
Marriage or Bann Date: 27 May 1845
Marriage Place: Banbury, St Mary, Oxfordshire, England
Parish as it Appears: Banbury
Spouse: Harriett Gascoigne
Father: William Cotterill

Harriet names Robert as her father - but if he was her foster/adoptive father from her early childhood, maybe she looked on him as her father - or maybe had been told he was.

Or maybe he WAS her father, but somehow her baptism record hasn't survived.
