Dea Report 29 Jun 2018 10:52

I have deleted that post for the minute AG as I got myself confused as well there so I thought I would start again - still working on it.

This is SO confused - I think the children (at least some of them) must belong to Mary's previous marriage but we obviously need more details - I had found 'possibles' for Sally & John (though ages way out for John) with parents John Thornton + Mary but nothing totally adds up.

The other death I had posted for 1808 for a Wood comber from Waterside unfortunately was for a JOHN Baldwin not a Henry :-( - Total confusion here I am afraid - apologies. <3

I am going for a large mug of coffee and will return.....................

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jun 2018 10:40

This is the only record I can see for a Sally Baldwin in Colne 1759 - but obviously completely different parents.
Where did you find your Sally's year of birth? (and Jenny's ?)

Sally Baldwin
England Births and Christenings
Name Sally Baldwin
Residence Place Colne, Lancashire, England
Gender Female
Christening Date 22 Apr 1759
Christening Date (Original) 22 Apr 1759
Christening Place St. Bartholomews, Colne, Lancashire, England
Father's Name Jno. Baldwin
Mother's Name Anne

ArgyllGran Report 29 Jun 2018 10:35

Is this the baptism you are assuming is your John's ?

John Baldwen
England Births and Christenings
Name John Baldwen
Residence Place Foulridge, Lancashire, England
Gender Male
Christening Date 1753
Christening Date (Original) OCT 1753
Christening Place ST.BARTHOLOMEWS, COLNE, LANCASHIRE, ENGLAND
Father's Name Henry Baldwen

As Dea says, his father cannot possibly be the woolcomber, who wasn't born himself at that time. (EDIT: Dea has since deleted her post.)

Is this the record you're going by for Jenny?

Jenny Baldwin
England Births and Christenings
Name Jenny Baldwin
Residence Place Colne, Lancashire, England
Gender Female
Christening Date 10 Oct 1756
Christening Date (Original) 10 Oct 1756
Christening Place St. Bartholomews, Colne, Lancashire, England
Name Note Illegitimate
Mother's Name Mary Baldwin

If so, her mother isn't the Mary who married Henry in 1795.

What do you know about Mary's first husband please - was he called John?

You mention 'Waterside' - where does that come from?

Do you have any more info on any of them at all?

P.S. - I don't know if you already use it but this site is very useful for the area:
