Ah yes- that death is likely! Here is Bernard in 1911 with daughter, Margaret (Margaret Riley married Owen Croughan in 1886) :

1911 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription
7 Orders Lane Kirkham, Kirkham, Lancashire, England

Margaret Crougham Head Widow Female 44 1867 Kirkham Lancs Cotton Intermediate Frame Tenter
John Joe Crougham Son Widower Male 25 1886 Kirkham Lancs Scutching Machine Tenter
Joseph Crougham Grandson - Male 5 1906 Kirkham Lancs
Bernard Kiley Father Married Male 64 1847 Longford Ireland General Labourer

(extra details for Bernard are crossed through as information only applies to women- states 48 yrs married, 12 children born alive- 4 still living)

Interestingly- Bernard has the correct amount of years married (48 years in 1911= 1863 marriage). HOWEVER, on the 1911 Mary Ann states she has only been married 39 years- possibly to cover her ever decreasing age!

In 1911 both Bernard and Mary Ann state that they had 12 children, with only 4 still living.

:-D

Fingers crossed AG. Looks like there were a few more children that possibly died- but difficult to know which ones.

I wonder if Bernard returned to England. I couldn't see his death in Belfast, and Mary was a widow when she died in 1918?

Kucinta Report 3 Jul 2018 11:04

The 1911 census shows Mary Agnes Mc Cully nee Reilly to be aged 28 and born England, so she does seem to be the right Mary Agnes Reilly.

Residents of a house 83 in Palmer Street (Shankill, Antrim)

McCully John 31 Male Head of Family Roman Catholic Belfast General Labourer Read and write - Married - 6 - -
McCully Mary Agnes 28 Female Wife Roman Catholic England

So there is a possibility that Bernard might be also known as Thomas?

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 3 Jul 2018 11:00

Interesting???

When Joseph Reilly married Margaret Monaghan in 1904, his address was 60 Butler Street Belfast.

I found this marriage the following year.:

Party 1 Name JOHN MCCULLY
Party 2 Name MARY REILLY
Date of Event 23 April 1905
Group Registration ID 1984751
SR District/Reg Area Belfast

The bride is Mary AGNES Reilly, of full age, of 60 BUTLER St, but her father is THOMAS Reilly deceased labourer, not Bernard. Yet her mother Mary Ann Reilly is described as married in 1911 when she is living with the Rodgers family and widowed son Joseph.

No Reilly witnesses.

Just throwing it out there in case Bernard was sometimes known as Thomas...

John McCully is a labourer of 93 or 95 Butler Street.

ArgyllGran Report 2 Jul 2018 23:20

If Bernard was born in Warrington (though can't see it) and Jane in Manchester, it's probably a reasonable bet that Joseph was also born in Lancashire, 1884-5.

There are these two possible Reilly births:

REILLY, JOSEPH mms KILLROY
GRO Reference: 1884 S Quarter in WEST DERBY Volume 08B Page 593

REILLY, JOSEPH mms BYRNE
GRO Reference: 1885 J Quarter in BIRKENHEAD Volume 08A Page 559

However, there are also quite a number of Joseph Riley births in Lancashire 1884-5

Kucinta

Kucinta Report 2 Jul 2018 23:19

Nephew Thomas Reilly on the census 1911 above, is the son of Joseph Riley who is widowed by census 1911:

Name THOMAS REILLY

Mother's Birth Surname MONAGHAN

The register image says his father is Joseph Reilly of 16 Oakfield St (matches the census 1911 address), a labourer, and Mother is Margaret Reilly nee Monaghan.

Mary Ann Riley and her widowed son Joseph are living with Mary Ann's daughter Jane Rodgers and the Rodgers family in the Irish census of 1911. The Rileys are described as Catholic, thought Robert Rodgers is C of E.

So I guess we should be looking at Catholic records for the Rileys.
