Thanks for the info for Robert . Glad he was not found to be previously married.though it is strange it says on the Burnley in the great war site that Robert was in the London field ambulance regiment :-S

Oh good . Glad it's not complicated . Just strange how they have him down as in the London field ambulance on Burnley in the great war , nit sure if the above service record contradicts that . They gave the same service number though. But at least we know that this other Robert has the middle name Isaac. Thanks for that .

Is there anyone able to check his service number 207276 for the London field ambulance ? :-)

Shirley

Shirley Report 8 Jul 2018 07:11

Robert ingham Gregory was in the first world war in the London field ambulance . Does this mean he perhaps joined up in London ? This may explain the west ham connection if it is actually him marrying elsie fox. The births of children with m.m.n fox in west ham ended in 1924 . So wonder if this is when he returned to Burnley ...uf it is actually him. Interesting. May be jumping the gun but woukd be great if this was correct . :-) :-D :-S

Shirley Report 8 Jul 2018 06:44

Found a few births in west ham that could have been the children of that marriage.. Will check this out . :-S

Interesting find , that other wedding. . He was in a London regiment i think at one point in the first world war . I'll check that. Wonder if there were any children born from this marriage . Not as,easy to check as not in Lancashire . Is there a way if checking if this Robert i Gregory and elsie fox had children ? :-S

from lancs bmd ...........

they married either at the Registry Office or a non-conforming church where the Register had to be present (eg Roman Catholic)

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1924

GREGORY Robert Ingham HARGREAVES Evelyn Burnley Register Office or Registrar Attended Preston RM/211/41

I wonder if one, either or both had been married before, as that would be a reason for them to marry in a Registry Office. Robert is old enough to have been in WW1, and there were many wartime marriages.

I found this on Freebmd ..............

Shirley ............

The 1939 Register does NOT contain information on where someone was born.

It is concerned only with full names, ages, residence as of that date, marital status because it was meant to be used as the basis for issuing Identity Cards.

Another thing to remember is that many people gave the wrong birth years .............. the DATE and MONTH are usually correct, but the year may be changed, either accidentally or deliberately.
