Thanks so much for all this info. It looks like she spent a lot of her time travelling back and forth. I'll have to look at all these dates. I wonder when she died though if indeed William went on to marry Jennie.

If, as the records seem to show, William and Carrie became US citizens, I'm guessing that he died in the US. Could some kind person see if they can spot his death.

I can't actually find his birth record at all.
You say he was born 1885, and most of the censuses, etc, say 1887-8 - but I can't find it.

Oh yes, found it - registered as Oakey, 1st qr 1886.

I don't see either William or Clarrie in 1940, so maybe they died 1930-40 - though that's not very old

The birth date I've been given is 17 January 1885 but that hasn't been verified and the person who gave it is deceased. Maybe the 1885 is a typo and the 1886 ref you found is the correct one.
Since he did so much back and forth I suppose it's possible he died in UK and that 1987 date looks a strong possibility.
