I am looking to find any info on the Lodge family who lived in Darlington (possibly Minors Crescent).
David Lodge at one point married Rosina Richards and they had 3 children, all girls. I have David's DOB as 1901 (i think) but any more than that im stuck.
Can anyone help? thanks
Dave

Born December 1901 - this is probably his birth registration. 6 weeks allowed post birth to register so it's tipped over into the following Quarter and so the next year. there is not another showing that would fit his birth date.

The 3 older girls (closed records) were born between 1930/1 & 1937 and are recorded on Freebmd.
There's a possible son b 1949? He may be the child of a different Lodge/Richards marriage although he does carry a 'family' name

thank you all for the info. Some of it rings true, I knew about the little girl that died though the instances around that account are a little different from the way I was told it. And the son of David Lodge & Rosina Richards was my uncle, who in the end wasnt David Lodge's son but anyway...
Im confused, the 1911 census shows Henry & Margaret having 10 kids but David isnt listed in the number of their children, even though hes not there I would have thought they would have included him?? Also, there seems to be more than 10 kids by the time you factor in the ones who were on the 1901 census and not on the 1911 one (presumably moved out and got married)
Finally, anyone have any idea why David would have been in the school away from the rest of the family? Its not a particularly wealthy family or from a wealthy area, seems odd to me!

Censuses record people who are at a given address on a specific night, and not family members who were elsewhere
Use the GRO website to check the births of children, although much of the info has been posted
Can’t speculate about the ‘school’ query. Can only suggest you try to find out what type of school it was

There’s an interesting chat about which school it might be. It seems there were 2 large boarding schools in Gainford.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=225478.0
Could it have been “St Peter's Orphanage/School for Roman Catholic Boys, Gainford, County Durham. St Peter's Orphanage for Roman Catholic Boys was established in 1900 at Main Road, Gainford. The purpose-built premises could.......”
http://www.childrenshomes.org.uk/GainfordAS/ Unfortunately I can’t get the link to open.
Children could be removed from their parents if they were poor or the child was ‘out of control’.

Thanks for all this. The debate about the schools is an interesting one. Given the family background, the area they were housed in, their jobs and the little I know of him, the naughty boys school definitely makes sense!!
I wonder if you can help me again. The snippet about David & Rosina Lodge's baby who died in 1944....how do I find this article pls?

It’s on Findmypast & probably Genes.
If someone has time, perhaps they could download & send it to you? I can probably do so this evening if there’s been no volunteers.
