Looking for the family of my Gt Gt grandmother Sarah Dunn born about 1835 in Manchester. I have found a marriage for her in 1855 which states her father is Dennis Dunn. I have found a Sarah on th 1841 census in Manchester Father Dennis born Ballingate Co Wicklow Ireland mother Catherine but on the 1851 census the mother is Mary Ann.
Any help would be appreciated

Who did she marry please as there are several with the same name

Unknown Report 21 Jul 2018 08:10

She married William Taylor. They married in Manchester. They had a daughter Sarah born 1857 and a son James born 1859 both in Manchester. Williams's profession was a glass cutter and on 1861 census they were living in Brierley Hill Staffordshire where they had more children. Dennis Dunn disappears from census when Sarah marries, or at least I can't find him.
Thanks
Wendy

Maybe a marriage

Marriages Mar 1849
Dunn Dennis Manchester 20 554
Kelly Mary Ann Manchester 20 554

If not it seems there were more than one Dennis Dunn

Looks like Dennis could have married Mary Ann in 1849?:

Marriages Mar 1849 (>99%)
Dunn Dennis Manchester 20 554 *****
Kelly Mary Ann Manchester 20 554

This was also the second marriage for her:

Marriage to a Catherine?

Name: Dennis Dunn
Marriage Date: 22 Jan 1832
Parish: Manchester, St Mary, St Denys and St George
Spouse's Name: Catherine Gallagher
Archive Roll: 699

Dennis was a bachelor and weaver. Catherine a spinster.

EDIT:

Birth Of sarah's sister Jane aged 5 months in census 1841?

DUNN, JANE GOLLOHER

That could well be his marriage to Catherine - I had been looking at a different birth for Jane but I am now drawn towards this one:#

DUNN, JANE GOLLOHER Order
GRO Reference: 1841 M Quarter in MANCHESTER Volume 20 Page 601

The mmname could easily be a mistranscription of Gallagher?

Thanks kusinta
I wondered whether he had married twice, but didn't know if they were 2 different families. On the 1841 census they were with a family called Welch.
But these dates seem to fit.
Thanks

Sorry, had added the birth of Jane to the Gallagher marriage post at same time as Dea was posting it.

Thanks also Dea
Didn't know if there were 2 Dennis Dunns as the birth dates differ in the census records.

Shirley the marriage in 1849 looks promising. Catherine could have died between 1841 to 1849.
Thanks

A death for a Dennis Dunn in Manchester (if widowed Catherine in 1861 is correct)

DUNN, DENNIS 50
GRO Reference: 1847 D Quarter in MANCHESTER Volume 20 Page 691

Age is roughly right.

I think that maybe Catherine did die so that isn't her on 1861 census. It could be her death in 1846 then he 're married 3 years later to Mary Ann. The 2 girls were going Sarah would have been 13/14 and Jane about 9. I have found a Dennis Dunn on 1851 census so don't think the death for 1847 can be right.
If not and Catherine was alive I'm going in the wrong direction.

Have just looked at Lancashire online records and for the church Dennis married Catherine and the record's for 1832 are missing.

Yes I went o n to see if there was anymore information like witness names that I could tie in to the family.
The family they were with on 1841 census was a Mary Welsh who was born in Ireland 1773/1777. Wondered if she may have been a relative.

I've found Dennis Dunn died 1857 dec quarter age 46 Manchester which makes his birth about 1811. Which could be my Dennis.
