If you are so sure about his birthplace, look for him in censuses to find out his parents’ names

Or look for his birth on the GRO site.

There is a John Robinson of the right age living in Darlington in 1901, BUT he was born in Loftus

Spending £9.25 on his marriage cert would stop all the speculation, providing he knew his father
