Find Ancestors

Looking for information on a possible marriage for this lady. Her Mother was Rose McDuff (Nee Ceigo - sometimes spelt Ciego) - I believe her father is unknown.

No idea if/when she married but is believed to have had at least 3 children. 1 born 1961 (surname McDuff), others unknown.

Would love to find living relatives for a friend of mine who spent her life in the care of the Nuns (say no more).

Forgot to say, lived Newcastle upon Tyne (Rye Hill) for a period in the early 60s with her Mother Rose.

Freebmd has 3 births registered under the name McDuff and Allen, so if correct would indicate the parents were not married but Pauline was going under the name Allen. Check it out, 1st born Lambeth 1964, other 2 born Southport 1967 & 69

Your friend was registered in 1961, just under the name McDuff. The other 3 children referred to are possibly half siblings.

The births are on the above free site. Just search for births under the name McDuff with mothers maiden name McDuff between 1964 & 1969 and you should find them. If you then click on the page number you will see each was registered under Allen, mmn McDuff as well. If you can't find them I'll send you a PM with their details.

One of their birth certificates should prove if it is indeed one of Pauline's children.

I can't see a marriage for Pauline in England/Wales, nor can I see a death with the correct dob.

No :-( all I have been able to find is her DOB; she was born in Sunderland, her Mother was Rose (lived and died in Newcastle) and that she had my friend in 1961 (put her into care between 1961 and 1966) then went on to have more children I know little else to be honest.

When and under what name did Rose die (you mentioned 2 names in your opening post) please? There may be a probate record or will that could be checked out.

I sent a PM to Elaine with the possible births, and she is going to suggest her friend buys one of them to check if their mother is Pauline. Hopfully the father (Mr Allen) will have a more unusual christian name or middle name to assist in locating them.

I think that could be her Dea, she appears to have had another child - John who was born and died in quarter 4 1939 in Sunderland district.

I wonder about this one as another possible child of Rose?

I can't see a matching birth.

There is mention in an article - 07 August 1942 - Sunderland Daily Echo that (what appears to be) the same Rose McDuff by then has a child of around 1 year old who was taken away from Rose and first put into the Cottage Home as it was 'pale and ill-nourished'. Rose was charged with neglect.

Rose and the child were living in 2 dirty rooms with Rose's mother at the time. This would appear to fit with the time Pauline was born?

As you'll have noticed, Pauline's birth record gives mms McDuff - not Ciego or similar.

Is the Ciego name from the birth cert?

(Not that it's relevant to your enquiry about Pauline's possible marriage! )

Dea the info re sunderland / neglect etc sounds spot on! Ceigo i think was Roses maiden name. Lived with what appears to be her Brother Daniel, a serviceman who married circa 1972 x

Another probable daughter for Rose - born 1943 Sunderland

I wonder if the daughter registered Q1 1943 that AG has mentioned - Margaret R is the same child as death was registered in Q4 1942 as Rose M?

But that would mean she died before she was born.
