Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me. I know my Great grandmother Sarah Ann Dyer was living in West Ham,London in the 1891 and 1901 census. I've just found a newspaper report on here about a Sarah Ann Dyer living at 122 West Street, Charlton London dated 6th December 1890. Is there any way i can find who else was living at this address i.e family members to see if this was my relative as this might help me locate birth certificates of some of her children that i cannot find. Hope this makes sense Thanks Nick

Thanks Maddie. Still frustrating though. My Great grandparents were Sarah Dyer , born around 1860 in Hemel Hemstead which is near Buckinghamshire i believe and William Dyer , born in somerset in 1849. I guess i'll have to see if there is a similar sounding couple on the census

Yes that is them on the census. They had children in 1891 so at the moment i'm thinking we have two different couples. Their oldest child appears to have been born in 1884 but they married in 1885

The head of the family sometimes used William as one of his names but the more i think about it they probably are different people as he would usually use John on the census

John George Dyer, also known at times as John William Dyer married Sarah Ann Stock in 1885 at St. James the Great, I think we have just very common names being used unfortunately Thanks Kath

Are you sure she was born in Hemel Hempstead? Could this be her, born in Hempstead, Essex?
Do you know her parents' names?
Sarah Ann Stock in the 1861 England Census Name: Sarah Ann Stock Age: 0 Estimated Birth Year: 1861 Relation: Granddaughter Gender: Female Where born: Hempstead, Essex, England Civil Parish: Hempstead County/Island: Essex Country: England Registration district: Saffron Walden Sub-registration district: Radwinter ED, institution, or vessel: 3 Neighbors: Household schedule number: 69 Piece: 1123 Folio: 36 Page Number: 12 Household Members: Name Age Lydia Stock 59 Thomas Stock 27 Harriett Stock 21 Sarah Ann Stock 0
This is the birth of that child, daughter of unmarried Harriet:
STOCK, SARAH ANN - GRO Reference: 1861 J Quarter in SAFFRON WALDEN Volume 04A Page 382

I agree with Alviegal's 1901 and 1911 - and Ancestry links them to Sarah Ann Stock of Hempstead, Essex.
1911 says they'd had 11 children, of whom 6 had died.

Yes i have 1891, 1901, 1911, census. They disappear in 1881 and i've had a little trouble with birth certificates because they seem to use different names or nicknames at times. I'm not sure they registered their oldest child as she may have been born before they got married. Ithink i need to improve my research skills. cheers again

1881 - Ancestry suggests the census I posted earlier for Sarah Ann.
Great Canfield is about 10 miles as the crow flies from Hempstead.
(But maybe the enumerator got it wrong - there's a Great Sampford just beside Hempstead. Just a thought.)

I realise i'm probably thick but what website do you find births that also mention the mother's maiden? I apologise for going off the original thread but that would help take it further
