William was a gold engraver according to the 1861 and 1871 census, born in Shoreditch and living in Poplar, London. He is recorded as Lamantyne in 1861, but I have failed to find him in previous or later censuses. His wife and daughter (born 1871) were both called Emma. There is a baptism in Shoreditch in 1848 for a William Lamendin, but born 1823. His daughter, Emma married my grandfather's uncle.
I am hoping to connect these Lamendins with a Charles Lamandy, a weaver from Bethnal Green who died in 1762. He married Martha Vandersteen, a widow, previously married to Bartholomew Vandersteen, also a weaver. Bartholomew is from another branch of my family. Does anyone have access to records that would fill the gap between Charles Lamandy and William Lamendin, please?

To all those very kind genealogists who have answered so quickly - a very big thanks indeed. Your work will speed up my work immeasurably on this very difficult surname, and not only does it give me additional information on the 'main line', but all those siblings give me probably years of work ahead! There are obviously several branches of this family, and plenty of work to do. I can't believe how quickly you have all replied, and maybe I can help some of YOU in the future. Thanks again.
