I am wondering if anyone can help or advise me. Family folk lore says that an ancestor was in the Black Watch and I have found Helen Marriott who was born in Edinburgh in about 1861. She has a brother John also said to have been born in Edinburgh so am assuming some truth in what is said. However Mother in Law couldn't remember any names. |

If this is Mary and James then she wouldn't be having children in the 1860,s |

But still no sign of her birth on ScotlandsPeople - though the old parish registers aren't exhaustive. Many haven't survived, or no record may have been made in the first place. |

The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The regiment was created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, when the 42nd Regiment of Foot was amalgamated with the 73rd Regiment of Foot. |
