Hi Eleanor,

I have just seen your post on that site...

May I suggest that you also tell people on there that she was still in there in 1942 and may well have died in there around 1965?

I think initially if people just see that she went in in 1918 they will think that as it was over 100 years ago they will be unable to help as they weren't around then but I have seen fron the posts that some of those people were there in the 50's and 60's so they will perhaps think further ?

While I was searching I came across a facebook page called "Pastures Hospital Appreciation Society"

Many of the members of the page appear to have very long associations with the hospital - most of them seem to have worked there at some stage and could well have been around when your Lucy was there. Someone may just remember her - after all, if she arrived around 1917/1918 and probably died there around 1965, that is something like 46 / 47 years so surely people must remember 'Minnie' (Lucy).

You can join their 'group' here:

If Minnie Jones, who is one of Caleb's children in 1891 census, and whose birth I can't find, is actually Lucy ("pet" name ?), perhaps this is her in 1939 ??

So she may have been admitted to the mental hospital after the birth of the last baby born in 1918

Explains why that's the last birth after having children almost every year before then

I believe the patient records for Pastures Hospital are now held at Kingsway Hospital.

Below is a link to info telling you how to request the patient records:

http://www.derbyshirehealthcareft.nhs.uk/contact-us/patient-requests/

According to the newspaper article re the deceased baby dated June 1942 - it says that Lucy had been in Mickleover Mental hospital for around 25 years at that time so we know she was still in there then.

I have my grandad here and I’m questioning him about Lucy.

She ended up in Pastures, and that was an actual asylum in mickleover Derby.

Re the Ball births in Mansfield to 1918 -

A tree on Ancestry says Lucy M Ball 1918 was Lucy Mavis Ball, daughter of Joseph and Lucy.
She died in NSW in 2003.

Married in 1940 - the tree gives her husband's name, but not the marriage date:

Mavis Ball
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Marriage Index, 1916-2005
Name: Mavis Ball
Registration Date: Apr-May-Jun 1940
Registration district: Chesterfield
Inferred County: Derbyshire
Spouse: Jack Hage
Volume Number: 7b
Page Number: 2353

So in 1939 she's with her father and brother:

Joseph Ball
in the 1939 England and Wales Register
Name: Joseph Ball
Gender: Male
Marital status: Married
Birth Date: 14 Apr 1883
Residence Year: 1939
Address: 177.Primrose Hill.Blackwell
Residence Place: Blackwell, Derbyshire, England
Occupation: Coll Rock Ripper (H W )
Schedule Number: 245
Sub Schedule Number: 1
Enumeration District: RCKE
Registration district: 438/7.
Household Members:
Name
Joseph Ball - 14 April 1883
Wilfred Ball - 12 Dec 1914
Mavis Ball

Joseph's calling himself married, not widowed, if that means anything - I know it's not a totally reliable clue.
