That's good - just wanted to be certain ;-) ;-)

I've had a bit of a breakthrough. In a letter from 2004 there was mention of the son of Joseph.. He was still alive in 2004 so don't want to post his name, but I did find a birth reference on freebmd.

I told you about him when I posted 1939 register

The reference I found on freebmd was to a son born in 1941 so would not have been on the 1939 register, but would fit with the marriage in 1940. I've also found three more children and it looks like two could be a set of twins. I've checked to see who they married to see if I could find Hannah but no luck. I think I'm just going to have to give up on finding Hannah, I think.
Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hannah has NOTHING whatsoever to do with your Joseph. She is the executor of the Will of a totally DIFFERENT man. Please read - carefully - the info people have taken the trouble to find for you.

The first child of Joseph and Marjorie was born in 1935

Well, I think I'm truly missing something.
If Joseph did marry Marjorie Birkett in 1940 then she would not be on the 1939 register as a married woman. From what I can see on freeBMD, the birth reference to a son born in 1935, with mother's mmn as Birkett, refers you to another reference in 1941, which is the one I was referring to. This would then fit with the marriage in 1940.
There is another birth reference for a Farrer child in 1935 but that one is female and mmn is Graves.
What am I missing.

You are missing the fact that the son born in 1935 was illegitimate and re-registered after his parents married

I have posted the 1939 register showing Marjorie, calling herself Farrar, and SINGLE at home with her parents, and the boy (closed record)

People lied then just as they do now

Interestingly, when I look at the 1939 record, Marjorie is a closed record too.
