The parish of Stranton was SW of the psh of Hartlepool across the harbour
The parish of Seaton Carew was SW of Stranton
All were in Stockton RD until 8/6/1859 then transferred to the new Hartlepool RD on 9/6/1859 (until that was abolished 1/7/1938).

When using the GRO index, and you're not quite sure where in Co Durham your target lived, it's worth knowing you can specify the Vol as 24 thru 1851 or 10a ror 1852-1930-ish and get all* of Co Durham.

* I exagerate here - the historic Co Durham included detached parishes scattered across Northunberland thru 10/1844, when they were transferred to Northumberland.
There was a large detached chunk around Berwick - in fact none of Berwick RD was in Northumberland (although the GRO classified it all in the "registration" county of Northumberland).
Berwick was actually in the county of the city of Berwick, and the rest of the RD was in a detached bit of Co Durham.
There were a whole mess of these county of the city of xxx's, but they were all abolished in the 19th cent with the exception of the sole remaining one - the county of the city of London.

When using the GRO index, and you're not quite sure where in Northunberland your target lived, it's worth knowing you can specify the Vol as 25 thru 1851 or 10b ror 1852-1930-ish and get all* of Co Durham.
These volumes actually cover all of the registration counties of Northunberland, Cumberland and Westmoreland.

The 61st Foot spent more than thirty years on garrison duty before seeing active service again. From 1816-22 they were stationed in Jamaica, from 1822-28 in England and from 1828-40 in Ceylon. They were stationed in England and Ireland from 1840-45.[2] In 1845 they moved to India, fighting in the Second Anglo-Sikh War of 1848-49: at the Battle of Ramnagar (November 1848), Battles of Saddalupar and Chillianwala (December 1848-January 1849) and Battle of Gujrat (February 1849).[2] The regiment was still in India when Indian Rebellion of 1857 broke out. They took part in the Siege of Delhi
