Alviegal so Charles was born in the workhouse maybe that’s why it’s maybe not coming up on bmd?

Although civil registration started in 1837, birth registration wasn't compulsory in England until 1874.

Births were supposed to be registered from 1st July 1837, but, until 1875, no penalties were imposed for not doing so.

Illegitimate births were the most likely to go unrecorded, for obvious reasons
