I wonder if he was working in the RN dockyard in Bermuda. OH’s cousins had no idea their father had worked there until we unearthed a photo and tracked him sailing to and from.

Jink posted a 1938 outward travel record, to Bermuda.

Here's his return to 21 Neville Place, Osmondthorpe, Leeds, in 1939:

Right Thank you for all your help I've managed to find out Ronald was Evacuated in 1939
I couldn't find birth that fitted for Joseph so possibly he isn't the right family

Glady's I would have thought she would have been with Ronald ?? so without that marriage certificate I wouldn't know

So as it's a distant relation I think I've got what I needed

Thank you

If you look at the 1939 results, you will see that there are TWO. Look at BOTH

ALSO - when he went to Canada in 1940, he was NOT an engineer - he was Foreman Erector!!!

He was never in the Navy as far as can be seen

Sylann

Sylann Report 28 Jun 2024 19:24

ships rivetter 1939 engineer 1938 and 1941 could have changed his job and changed it back again

nameslessone

nameslessone Report 28 Jun 2024 19:19

Why is ships rivetter to engineer too big a leap?

Added re the crossing out - he could have been recorded at a different address. Could he have a,ready signed up for the navy - if so he wouldn’t be registered at home.

Sylann

Sylann Report 28 Jun 2024 19:17

Yes I've seen that Erika but didn't think it was him and couldn't make out why it was crossed out, writing over it says to look at another page but didn't understand it as I couldn't make it out properly

Sorry about Hebburn yes it is Durham
Not sure I've got the right family ??

ErikaH I havent seen the 1921 census

I'm trying to verify the info I've got as I've just been contacted by a relative of John Henry Hornby who is closer than I am to him but he is only just starting
The probate I have for him is at 21 Neville Place same address as the passenger lists but he is an engineer? 1938 and 1941 But ErikaH has him as a ships rivetter

I've got his birth and Parents right
