Thank you everyone. I think I have found my mother's brother and his wife and they seem to still be alive: John Peace and Mavis Peace, living in Walsall.

Trouble is they are ex-directory and the phone company will not disclose their number or address to me. Any idea how to get round this one? I'd really appreciate your suggestions. I'm getting to close now.

The age on the 1939 register is transcribed wrongly- his year of birth is given as 1891 (not 1897).

John Peace born in 1938 and married to Mavis Sutton in 1959.
