Don't know if this helps but there is a death for an Ann Kirkbright in September quarter of 1849 in Stockton, Durham Yorkshire North Riding Volume 24 page 200. Maybe John born c1844 is Ann's son and Dorothy's stepson. The death of Ann would fit in with the Stockton marriage to Dorothy. Looks like taking a risk as another member said in getting marriage certificate would confirm whether Edmund was a widower when he married Dorothy Hope this helps Diane

I would assume from the info you give that Edmund married had sons John and Edmund, wife died, Edmund married Dorothy. If you get the marriage cert for Edmund and Dorothy hopefully it will tell you if he was a widower.

On BMD marriages it says Ann Craggs. I can order the cert but it'll say father is Edmund Kirkbright, I still wont know which one is mine, Dorothy's, or Ann's. Thanks Jill!

An Edmund married Ann Craggs in 1841 - according to IGI - but that's a submitted record. But there's a record of a marriage to Ann Crabbs that's one of their filmed ones - 14 May 1842. There's also a marriage of an Edmond Kirkbride to a Mary Stones on 4 Apr 1836 in Shipley, Yorks. ?? There's also a record showing Jane Kirkbright b. 23 Oct 1836 marrying a Matthew Hanson on 4 Aug 1850 at Keighley - but again, this is a submitted record. Thankyou everyone... I had been looking at marriages before John was born (assuming his parents were both his biological parents), and saw one for an Edmund Kirkbright in 1842...put 2 and 2 together.
