Thank you Helen and Irene so much for all this information. Irene one problem has arisen. Johns parents were John Gray and Jane Gray nee Crawforth. Does this mean My john born 1871 didn't marry Alice Wiswould.? Jane

Yes girls could marry at 12!!! and boys at 14!!! with parental consent. I have a grt gr grandma married in 1877 aged 15 and 3 months. her cert says 16 but it was stretching the truth cos have her birth cert

Helen I had Alice born in 1883. registered in Lincoln. John Gray born 1874 in lincolnshire 1891 census I originally had him as a servant but wasn't sure 1901 I had him married to Alice with no children although I couldn't understand why she was so young when they married. I originally thought Alice was probably Alice Wiswould. Now there seems to be two John and Alice Gray's. I found a marriage registed in Sculcoates in Yorkshire perhaps this is mine instead. This Alice is Alice Huxley They married in 1900. Helen it is looking more likely now that I Have been extremely silly and jumped to the wrong conclusion. Johns parents have moved to Sculcoates on the 1901 census and this is where the other Alice married John. What do you think. I getting really confused. Jane

Helen I think I am going to call it a day with this line. I will have to send for the marriage certs and see which one is right before doing anything else. Thank you so much for all your help. What would I have done without you. Irene Thank you so much with all your help aswel. Just think without both your help I could so easily have gone very wrong with my tree. All the best Jane
