Please could someone look up this lady - and the household she's with in 1871. She was born in Earl Stonham, Suffolk in 1859. Many thanks. Annie

Gawd you're fast Georgina! I was just tinkering with FreeBMD to check on BRAME-SOUTHGATE marriages!! So this probably means that Rachel married her first cousin - I didn't think that was allowed back then? More pondering ... Regs Annie

Georgina, For sure, that must be her ... but I'm a little perturbed that she is designated 'niece' ... she married their son about 10 years later! This obviously bears further investigation!! Any chance you could do one more BRAME for me - her brother Eustace, born 1862, Earl Stonham? I'm half expecting to find him at Darrow Wood Farm in Diss, Norfolk. Thanks for your help. Annie

Annie I think it is your Rachel on the above 1871 census, on the image the name looks like a mispelling of Brame and it says she is their niece, this is their marriage reference... Marriages Jun 1853 (>99%) >>>Brame Eliza Bosmere 4a 755 Collman Benjamin Bosmere 4a 755 Mayhew Matilda Bosmere 4a 755 >>>SOUTHGATE William Bosmere 4a 755 Georgina.

Georgina, Really pushing my luck, but could you look at John BRAME born 1816 Earl Stonham, Suffolk in 1851 Census? This should reveal him at home with his siblings - you've given me a new idea. I'm working on cataloguing 3 ancient postcard albums on loan from a family elder, along with identifying some of his old photos. Along the way I'm trying to identify the various subjects and writers. There's one lot in particular who are giving me a lot of trouble - if the 'close' family ties go back a further generation, maybe all will be revealed! These days we only keep in touch with first cousins, then they seemed to have contact with more distant relations. Thanks again for your help. Regs Annie

Hmmm ... a 'boarder'! He was a tin plate worker later on in Ipswich where he married in 1892, so perhaps he was in transit so to speak. Curiously, in 1881 he was living next door to the SOUTHGATES - so that was obviously no coincidence given your earlier revelation that they would have been his aunt & uncle. Thanks for doing this. Georgina, You are an absolute star! Very many thanks for guiding me through this - you will also help to make an elderly man very happy (eventually when I finish my task!). Thank you so much - go have a cup of tea now for your marvellous work! Regs Annie

Georgina, Sorry for delay - both GR and me are a bit slow tonight! It certainly could be their marriage - Barham appears to be in Bosmere RD. It would suggest that there were other offspring before Harriett, Eliza & John - they were born in the 1810s. I found two potential deaths for John BRAME - 1841 and 1845 both in Bosmere. So I guess there could actually be two heads of household called John Brame. What do you think? Annie

Jane

Jane Report 6 Jun 2007 19:56

Hmmm yes, I see. Reckon these three are 'mine': John Brame abt 1766 Suffolk, England Stonham Earl Suffolk John Brame abt 1821 Suffolk, England Stonham Earl Suffolk John Brame abt 1811 Stonham Earl Suffolk I'm on FamilySearch at the mo' trying to work out if there were more siblings. This hobby ... ahem ... obsession is really a nuisance, isn't it! Regs Annie
