Sorry, have just typed this all out so apologies if anyone has posted up more info. So we’ve established that Elizabeth, Justina No. 1 and Harriet all probably died in 1853 and 1854, which leaves: ANN Rice (born c. 1837, Bickenhall) In 1841 and 1851 census Then where? LEVI Rice (born c. 1843, West Hatch) Have him up until 1871 then he disappears. Could be a Lewis Rice I suppose but there’s no Lewis Rice that says birthplace is West Hatch or Bickenhall. ELIZA Rice (born c. 1845, Stoke St Mary or West Hatch) Have her up to 1891 with her mother and various children. Can only assume she never married the father/fathers of the children, although she does have that she’s a widow on 1891 census, so a bit confused there (unless she just lied!) We’ve established that HENRY Rice (born c. 1848, Stoke St Mary) went to Pembrey, Wales where at some stage they became Wrights and Rights, and there were probably a few wrong ‘uns in there as well! THIRZA needs a bit more investigating which I shall do tonight as well as having to look at all the various spellings of her name (Thurza, Thirza, Therza etc.) FREDERICK was nice and straightforward JUSTINA RICE (born c. 1856, Taunton) Still stuck with JUSTINA No. 2

GLITTER My esteemed colleague (just in case she's reading this!) sent me this: Thirza Rice (c.1850) I think the Rice family must have kept close contact with the Saturday/Saturley family because I think Thirza married another one of their family: Marriages Sep 1869 Kilpin Mariam Anna Taunton 5c 582 Rice Thirza Taunton 5c 582 SATURLEY James Henry Taunton 5c 582 Sparks George Taunton 5c 582 I know that Thirza married James Saturley because I've found George Sparks married to Miss Kilpin but do you think I can find Mr. & Mrs. Saturley? Like hell I can. They've joined the rest of the Rice/Wyce/Wright/Right/White family in the bottomless pit somewhere in Somerset!

Jennifer What are you trying to do to me?! Not another variation of the Saturday/Saturley/Satterley/spellhoweveryoulikerley name!

MariaW

MariaW Report 25 May 2007 23:36

Glitter Thirza (c. 1851) was apparently born in Stoke St Mary, Somerset, not Devon Unless of course, there's a few untruths being told

Thanks for all your help tonight ladies (and gents). Think I'm going to have to give up with this particular generation of the Rice family for now. Will just have to assume there was an earthquake/flood/plague of locusts that took them all!
