I found that Elizabeth Allan birth did swing from 1847 to 1842..for those two census...but it is differently 1847... seems to get more confusing.

You seem to be on thte right track..The 1891 census seems to fit with the 1881 census

Allan The 1881 info you have put on makes Elizabeth born in 1842

One reason for the 1881 census being at place of residence Dollar Cackmannan is that Elizabeth and Johns Allan son George was enrolled at the Dollar Academy..

Allen The Elizabeth i found in the 1881 through to the 1901 John is saying born in England. This one is very confusing Julie

I only wish that I could be more positive as the correct census..I know that John Allan was retired from the army in 1899.. chances are there were more children to the marriage but I have no knowledge of it.

Hi Julie The 1881 census that I have is Elizabeth Allan Head age 39 years Birth Place Tranent Haddington Scotland Census details Upper Mains Dollar Clackmannan Scotland Film 0203535 GRO volume 467 Enum 3 page 18 also listed her son George Allan Scholar age 10 born 1871 Kirkcaldy Fife Scotland Elizabeths husband was a soldier and maybe not at place of residence all the time.

Not having much luck with 1861 either. Nearest match is for Dour but born 1841 Tranent but living as a servant I presume you have parents names from marriage certificate of Elizabeth to John Allen Maureen

Hi Glitter Baby, Yes I have the marriage certificate of Elizabeth who married a John Allan in 1875..Elizabeths parents are listed as Edward Dow a Master Baker and Margaret Dow nee Henderson. Elizabeth was a domestic servant before marriage.. 1881 census gives Elizaneth birth place as Tranent Haddington
