I've had a look but there seems very little for the name BRADFORD. I don't know why that should be. Maybe they weren't very religious and didn't go in for baptisms. Maybe they came from overseas originally? Maybe they changed their name and Bradford is just a derivation of the original one?? If I were you I'd probably google for others who are researching that surname in Derbyshire and you might get lucky! Sorry, I must go and do some chores now! I get addicted to searching for things and the house is a mess! Mags xx

1901 for Frank Nicholas Could be? It's the only Frank Nicholas in the whole country who isn't listed as being Head between 1855 and 1875birth. I've expanded the search for another 5yrs each way, so see below for another couple of options! Frank Nicholas abt 1875 Zunney Frome, Somerset, England Brother-in-law Toxteth Park Lancashire Arthur J Rowson abt 1900 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Son Arthur S Rowson abt 1874 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Head Will check for Francis & variations on the spelling. **UPDATE can't see any others, so might need to wait for the next census or find another GR member who has him in their tree before you can verify the birthplace etc!

1851 for Thomas's Parents. Father has died, but Mary is actually living NEXT DOOR to Thomas with some of his siblings. They are listed as son/dau. So he has his Mum on one side, and future wife on the other. He didn't have to make much effort did he!! Elleaun Bradford abt 1832 Oakthorpe, Derbyshire, England Daughter Emma Bradford abt 1843 Oakthorpe, Derbyshire, England Daughter Henry Bradford abt 1835 Oakthorpe, Derbyshire, England Son Mary Bradford abt 1800 Measham, Derbyshire, England Head William Bradford abt 1839 Oakthorpe, Derbyshire, England Son

Have updated the 1841 to put in the order listed, but can't say whether they are def. all children yet. Will look for them in 51 to see if any are still at home. Re the Nicholas marriage in 1901, the census still shows her as being married so they could just be visiting grannie whilst husband works away, or could be wrong and she IS widowed! Will check for marriage and see if I can find the husband for you. Mags

Mags & Nicky Report 18 Jan 2007 21:32

Unfortunately no, the 1841 census did not record any relationships. I'll go have a quick look to see what order they list them in, although that is no guarantee! Sometimes cousins are listed with the family and you have no way of knowing unless you find them with their parents in a later census! It can get a little confusing! I've checked the IGI too but I can't see the Bradfords on there at all. Just nice to be able to help, you take care Alexandra, I need to go for a bit but might be back later. Mags

I think this is Thomas unmarried in 1841, occupation COLLIER. In 1851 his occupation is COAL MINER. Church Gresley Derbyshire Richd Bradford abt 1796 (HEAD) Image looks like MICK Mary Bradford abt 1801 (assume WIFE) I would assume that the rest are the children. I will look for them in 1851 to see if any are still at home to confirm: They are just listed in order of age, males first, then females. ===Thos Bradford abt 1821 Jno Bradford abt 1825 James Bradford abt 1827 Henry Bradford abt 1834 Wm Bradford abt 1838 Ellen Bradford abt 1832 Mary Ann Bradford abt 1840 So, I guess that means we look for another marriage between 1841 and 43 for his first one (when his first child was born).
