Val Just caught up with this thread. The fact that there is no father's name on his birth cert means he is illegitimate, I am afraid. In other words, he is not the child of Lilian's husband. Children born shortly after their father has died, still have the father's name and profession, but also have deceased after the father's name. (or posthumous, in baptismal registers). However, she must have explained to the Registrar that her legal husband was either dead or missing, because as she would have presented as Mrs George, the Registrar would automatically assume that her child was her husband's child - she must have TOLD the Registrar that her husband was long dead, or long missing. The Rolls will probably be in Manchester library...you may find a GR member who is able to visit there and look for you. As you have specific addresses and years it won't be too onerous a task to look them up for you............. Reg |

Hi again Reg I am assuming that my Aunt was born at home as the address when and where born is 12 Corwen Avenue Harpurhey and residence of parents is the same. On my Fathers it may be a hospital the address when and where born is 15 Mitchel Street Manchester, but the residence is 86 Bishop Street, Moss side, Manchester Can I get access to electrol roll on line or do i have to go to Manchester?? Were your dad and aunt born at 'home'? If so, the Electoral Roll(s) might prove worth investigating............the address(es) will be on the birth cert(s) Reg |

Yes Reg she died in the early 60s in Sale Manchester and was born in 1891 in Hulme, Chorlton, in Manchester. I have her BC but not her Death cert. I can guarantee she never wed again once Dad was born, Lilian brought them both up and looked after her Mother, Once her Mother died and the kids left home she became a housekeeper for a Doctor in Manchester, I do not know his name but may, over the next few days find out if that would be needed!!! many thanks Val:~) |

I've just looked through marriages 1920-1924, and the only Lilian Watt recorded in that time married a chap named Russell So, you may need to look earlier.......... Do you know when Lilian died? And how old she was? Reg |

Hi again OC and Reg I have both my Father and Aunts BCs!! On my Aunt's certificate it had father down as a draughtsman and Frederick Henry George, she was born in 1924 Also my Gran was down as Lilian George formerly Watt (mother) we know her maiden name was Watt!! On my fathers certificate in 1927 she was still Lilian George formerly Watt (mother) but a line accross Occupation and Father, could this also be because the father died before Dad was born or would you say that maybe FHG left Lilian pregnant and their little girl!!? Can you suggest what I do now, if as you say the initial is not H? I had hoped so much that this was the man, as I said he also was a draughtsman, I cannot find another druaghtsman with those names!! many thanks for all your help and advice regards Val:~) |

As I stated earlier, I don't think the actual second initial for the chap in 1901 is 'H'................ Also, if there is no father's name on his birth cert, your father must have taken his mother's surname............... What, exactly, does it say about the mother? Reg |

Val Sorry if you don't already know this, but the ONLY reason for leaving father's name off a BC is because the parents werent married to each other. His birth therefore, is probably registered in another name - possibly his mother's maiden name. And possibly, he used her name throughout his life - and died in that name, too. As he has three names, I would try searching for his death using his second name as a surname, if you see what I mean (and his birth also). Do you know his mother's maiden name/previous married name? yes OC there seems to be a lot of intrigue as you will see so i wouldnt put it past the family!! I am just hoping to find him dead or alive at that time.. Unfortunately we cant get access to census until 2012 to see where he was in 1911!! Yes I have looked in other parts of world and years ..but nothing!! until I came up with this FH George!! regards Val:~) |
