I was going to order a birth certificate for my Great Grandfather, i already have his marraige certifiacte with the fathers but no idea of the year the father was born or where he was born ,as i thought it was northumberland but cant find his name listed under northumberland. I was wondering would i get details about this from my great grandfathers brith certificate?

From the GRO website: What details will I see? Short certificate Details contained on a short version of a birth certificate include the baby's names and surname, sex, date of birth and the name of the registration district and sub-district where the birth took place. Full certificate Details contained on a full birth certificate include all the above plus exact place of birth father's name (if given at time of registration), place of birth and occupation mother's name, place of birth, maiden surname and, after 1984, occupation Please note: registrations made before 1969 do not include details of the parents' place of birth and mother's occupation How can you order his birth certificate though if you have no idea where or when he was born? It would tell you his place of birth, the exact date of birth, his mothers name and fathers if known, plus occupation. It also shows the registrar. You can't order it without knowing what year it happened though.... what's his name? and I'll have a look for the reference for you.

You will need to find his birth reference in the right area. From that reference you can order a certificate to obtain details of the birth, ie. date of birth, place ( actual address or just village / town depending on your luck), parents, the father's occupation, mother's name and maiden name, name of informant and their relationship to the child. Where did you get the information about Thomas's birth if you haven't got his birth certificate? I can't find a Thomas Stone registered in Alnwick in 1911. Kath. x

I think the best idea would be to buy his birth cert and get his mothers name. You can then look for the marriage between her and Stephen, and that will tell you how old they are (hopefully), and their fathers names, which should make them easier to locate in 1901.

Thank you, good idea! i also have another problem, i have their marraige certificate and Thomas Married Fanny Spears Stone, she was born 1911 and died in 1994 in Amble, where i visited her, although the death is registered in Newcastle Upon Tyne as thats where we live, the only problem is i cant find her birth anywhere?? i know her mother maiden name was Spears as her and my Granfather have that middle name for teh reason they are named after her maiden name, i want to purchase the birth certificate for her parent snames but cant find the birth for the reference!
