No problem Andrea. I thought it might be just me as I'm fairly new to this. I know Alfred emigrated and according to family gossip Malvena and the daughter went with him but Malvena fell ill and later died and Mary Malvena got sent home to live with relatives. So this might explain why we can't find record of death but it's weird how there's no birth record either. Thank you very much for trying. xx

Sarah Jane Strange this one. I can't find a birth for Mary Malvena nor a death for Malvena. I don't have access to birth details for the Scilly Isles but Malvena's father should show on the marriage certificate which may give you a clue. I can't find Alfred on any census either so perhaps they emigrated? Also with names like Wakfer and Malvena they are also at high risk of being mistranscribed. Sorry I couldn't help. Andrea

Hi Andrea, Could you look up Malvena Nicholls for me. She was born around 1860 in St Mary, Scilly Isles (I think), she married Alfred Thomas Wakfer in 1877 in Penzance. I have found her on the 1881 census living in Penzance with her daughter Mary Malvena (although it is spelt Malvona on the census) but I've had no luck finding records of her birth or death. I would appreciate any help. SJ

Hi Rosie The one you found could very liekly be her as there is only one Cicily Cooper registered between 1866 and 1887 but here are some other possibilities with the spelling as Cecily: Cooper Cicily Hackney.1b 477 Birth 2 1882 Cooper Cicely Blackburn.8e 361 Birth 3 1876 Cooper Cicely Jane Middlesbrough.9d 596 Birth 3 1884 Cooper Cicely Nantwich.8a 366 Birth 3 1879 Cooper Cicely Fanny Wellingborough.3b 140 Birth 1 1879 These are all the registrations of that name so she must be one of those so the one from Hackney probably is her. Hope that helps Andrea

Hi Lorraine Sorry for the delay in replying. I have checked all Cruikshank marriages from 1914 to 1926 and there are none to a Stockford. Lily Stockford is definitely registered with the mother's name of Cruikshank but their is definitely no marriage listed. I haven't gone past 1926 because I am running out of credits. Sorry I couldn't get to the bottom of that one for you. Many thanks Andrea

Hi I have a John Allen born around 1853 in St Giles or St Pancras. I know in 1891 he was a market porter. I would be grateful if you could find him in 1871 or earlier. He previously lived at 10 Nottingham Court.

Julie I have gone back to the 1881 census and the image is showing only James, Harriet and one daughter Fanny. Who were the other two? In 1891 Harriet looks like she is a lodger in Clerkenwell and is stated as a widow. The Rebecca I found in the 1851 census has five children Mary Jane, 15, Rebecca, 13, Hannah, 11, Maria, 9 and Sarah, 7. On IGi I found a Mary Jane born to a Rebecca and James in 1835 which seems to fit. If this is not them then there must be another family with the same names? I can't find a marriage for a James and a Harriet so it may be that she was the equivalent of a 'common-law' wife which wasn't as unusual as it was thought to be. Sorry I don't seem to be of much help. Andrea
