In 1881 I have Joseph LAMMIMAN b c 1831 Marylebone living four doors away from another Joseph Lammiman b c 1861 Paddington. The elder is a fishmonger which matches some of my other Lammimans. I would appreciate their being found in any other censuses - especially with their parents!1 Thanks in advance Peter |

Hi Peter The 'Lamminews' (Lammiman) on the 1851 are indeed at 5 North Place. Also William is born in Lincolnshire, (transcribed as) Stuston, but I cannot read exactly what it says, (could be Sturton) Joseph and John born in Marylebone. Regards Gail |

It looks as though there is something fishy about the lot of them, doesn't it!! Trouble is I now have too many John's and need 1841 to pin them down. The really interesting thing is that both my wife and I carry a rare damaged gene and now eachhave 4xgreat grandparents within a couple of miles of each other in Lincs - I knew there was a reason for this pastime!! Fingers crossed for any of them in 41 Petre |

Mags - thanks - can't fit these yet. I am desperate to find William Lammiman (1785 Little Steeping) in London with his children. His wife should be Susanna. I have children that I think are his - Thomas 1814;William 1812;John 1816; James 1818;Susanna 1820;Ann 1822;Joseph 1824 and another John 1827. Trouble is I have two John's. The later one is certainly his (census) and the earlier one is IGI. Once I find them in 41 it's plain sailing - at the moment it's like a jigsaw where I think I have a couple of pieces in the wrong place Peter |

I'll keep looking, unfortunately the 41 is absolutely steeped in mistranscriptions! I think there were a lot of illiterates and the people who wrote it down just wrote it as it was said! (with lisps and dropping of h's etc!!). Back soon .... |

Can find North Place in 1841 census but not found any Lammiman and the street is not numbered. If anyone wants to check out the street RG: HO107 Piece: 678 Folio: 9/51 Page: 28 Reg Dist: St John Parish: St Marylebone There is a Wilks family, mistranscribed as Wiler, in North Place as a clue to finding the street.
