I am looking for Thomas Smith and his wife Mary. They had at least one chidl called JOSEPH who married in 1881. Joseph was born in 1860 in Auckland. I am afraid that is all I know. Thanks Gail

Have you found them on the 1881 census - if so where? If not, you can search this for free on the LDS website. Do you mean Auckland, New Zealand and if so, did they come back to the UK? Sam x

Well my geography isn't great and Auckland in New Zealand is the only one I know of! It always helps if you specify the county at the beginning...

IF the 1871 census is correct then Joseph´s place of birth is stated as Spennymore. Registration district for Spennymore is Stockton - so this could be his birth (from FreeBMD) Births Dec 1861 SMITH Joseph Stockton 10a 52

Christine

Christine Report 18 Aug 2006 10:06

Oops - sorry, Spennymore in Auckland district 1937-1938.

Do you have Joseph´s marriage certificate -. if so what is father´s occupation The Thomas found on the 1871 was a coalminer.

Who did Joseph marry? When you say 'Auckland' for his birthplace, I assume you mean the registration district. Reg

Gail

Gail Report 18 Aug 2006 10:13

Hi all, Joseph was born in New Whittworth, Bishop Auckland in 1860. Thomas was a pitman. Cheers Gail

Christine

Christine Report 18 Aug 2006 10:15

It would be useful to know his wife's first name. 1891 has this: Name: Joseph Smith Age: 30 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1861 Relation: Head Spouses's Name: Mary >>Where Born: Spennymoor, Durham, England Civil parish: Crook and Billy Row Ecclesiastical parish: Stanley Town: Sunniside County/Island: Durham Registration district: Auckland Sub registration district: Hamsterley Household Members: >>Joseph Smith 30 Margret J Smith 2 >>Mary Smith 26 Mary Smith 7 But we need his wife's name to confirm this is the right/wrong Joseph Smith

Gail

Gail Report 18 Aug 2006 10:17

Joseph married in 1881 to Dorothy Broadley Thomas married in 1851 to Mary Davison in 1851 in Old Shildon and he was a pitman. Gail
