I am trying to trace the whereabouts of Elizabeth Jane Rowe nee Williams born 1859 in Marazion, Cornwall. She married John Rowe c1881 and I believe she had a daughter Martha Hockin Rowe in 1885. I can find no trace of them after. Can anyone help, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Ju xx

hiya, do you know parents names of elizabeth/john, this might help tying in 'hocking', i would think though that it is a grandparents surname, or a family surname, julie

Hi, sorry, my boss has been hounding me to do some work - what a kiljoy! Right - Elizabeth Jane's parents were Thomas and Catherine Williams. He was a miner. John's father was also called John and was a miller. They married in 1881. Elizabeth was 22, John 20. Their daughter Martha was born 14th Feb 1885, baptised 8th June 1885. I believe Hocking is a family name as it crops up so often in other relatives names, but havent been able to find the link yet. John worked as an ostler(?). Thank you so much! ju x

In between 1891 and 1901, they seem to have lost Nanny and William and gained John and Thomas!

ah ic now, ur at work, naughty girl!! An ostler is a person employed in a stable to take care of horses. It is alternative for stableman, stableboy, groom or hostler. do you know if martha died?? as shes not on census? will have a look for parents now, see if that helps julie i take it they also came from PZ/ marazion?

hee hee i know, bit naughty - but once you start its impossible to stop! I can't find any details for Martha after that birth record. They all came from Marazion and births etc were registered in Penzance. x
