Have been on to Family Relatives and checked marriages between 1901 and 1910. There is nothing for Goldsmith/Eaton or Goldsmith/Yapp

Thanks so much for doing that....does it mean?.... Could it be? ....That they were never married? His name is on the birth certificate and her name is given as Emily Eaton. Could she do that if they were not married? Is there anywhere else to look? Thanks again, Kate

hiya, on the birth cert does it state mothers name as eaton formally something?????? It seems to me if you cant find a Yapp-eaton then perhaps he took her name ie as a doubled barrelled name, without actually marrying her, does that sound likely?? in other words, they merged the two surnames, blah blah Yapp, blah blah Eaton hence Yapp-Eaton does that make sense?? julie

Hi Julie, Yes, her name is written as Emily, Eaton, formerly Goldsmith, His name is Thomas, Henry Yapp Eaton -Upholsterer, journeyman. the baby is Henry Thomas Yapp Eaton. The mother went to register the birth 3 months after the birth. What do you reckon? Did they marry?? Kate

Katharine Report 27 May 2006 16:36

Hi Julie, I have Emly and her parents on censuses from 1871-1901 (people have sen them in on the board.....I don't have membership to ancestry yet) but no mention at allof Thomas Henry Yapp Eaton ....all I know about him is on his son's birthc and what my Mum remembers being told ie that he died before his daughter (Maud) was born 1907 ish and that he was about 67 when he died. Anything you could find would be fantastic please! Kate x

you know, I am almost even more confused now! My mum thought that her father was named after a business partner of his father's (the Yapp bit) but noew that I know that his father also had Yapp in his name it would seem that it was my mum's garndfather who was named after the business partner.(furniture maker).. if so, then is the first Thomas you found for me old enough? you'd never have thought Yapp would be such a popular name! Thank you so much for finding all this out!! Anything else you can uncover would be very welcome...eg death of Thomas H Y ( Eaton) death in around 1907? You're brilliant! Kate

Katharine

Katharine Report 27 May 2006 17:09

Actually his certificate says his birth was registered in May but I remember his birth date well, 24th February...he always asked for a silver shadow rolls royce! Kate
