Hi, I know it's 9 years later but if anyone is still following this thread, my great grandfather is Arthur George Dickin/s b1873 He married Dora Pruett 1893 and supposedly died May 1917. There is allot of mystery around this man I know he travelled around allot and spent some time in London he also married Catherine Davy in Newcastle Upon Tyne in 1917

Apparently Deakin was a common travellers' name. Suppose he changed his names around later because that's what he started off with?: George Cyril Deakin Year of Registration: 1904 Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar District: Wandsworth County: London, Surrey Volume: 1d Page: 713 Denis

Yes, FC, you have found we found out about them being Arthurs born in Croydon. We hadn't looked up father's details though, so many many thanks for that. You are so good at this.

Is it me? I have looked through births for the requisite years and cannot find Cyril George or Leslie Llewellyn under any surname beginning with 'Dick'. The only birth I can find for a Dickin in the last quarter of 1900 is Gertrude Fanny and I'm sure we don't want to take that up as a line of enquiry! I also can't find the 1925 marriage on Ancestry but I think that may be because they have yet another page missing! Maybe someone could have a look on 1837 to clear that one up. Back in the original post it said something about both the boys being fostered. Were they fostered by the Dickin family and took their name? I'm beginning to think that might be the answer. I'm not enough of an expert to know if there is any way we could search the indexes somewhere by Christian name. If we could and we could find Cyril George and Leslie Llewellyn Whatever we might have an answer. Any thoughts anyone? Sheila

Hi checked Dec 1/4 of 1900 - Nothing (with any of the variables on imge) March and June 1/4's of 1901 (again nothing - the only one that keeps coming up is the birth in Northampton that has alrady been found) I personally think you should consider this one? if his father was a traveller then he could have been born in Northampton and travelled to London/Surrey when he was an infant and just thought he was born there? Of course its up to you but thats my thoughts on the matter. lol..... Suzanne

Have discussed a George Cyril b Oct 1900 in Croydon and a Leslie Llewelyn b last q 1902 in Croydon in the surname of Arthurs. At some stage they were fostered. Possibly were born under the mother's maiden name and married later. Will need to look in 1901 cenus and marriages for Dickin to an Arthurs. It's very exciting!!!

There is this death in 1981, names the other way around but if he went by George the person registing the death might have said it that way. Mar 1981. George Cyril Dickin, Dist Southend/S, Vol 9, Page 3095. D.O.B. 5 Oct 1900. Do you think this could be him? Or should I take another look? Update. Ok looks like I found the right death anyway! lol

Susan Report 5 Apr 2006 13:18

Right, might be on to something now all because of what Julie put re looking at death certs. Well here goes. On Cyril George Dickin death cert he did on the 13.3.1981 at Rochford Hospital, Southend as George Cyril Dickins. Apparently he hated being called Cyril so he called himself George so perhaps when he was dying he said his name was George Cyril Dickins. Also on the death cert it states that he was born on the 5 October 1900 in Croydon, Surrey. Does this help anyone now pleeease.
