In 1871, I have George Bird, born c1837 in Lincolnshire, an Iron Miner. He's living in Guisborough with his wife and children. I have found a possible marriage for them in 1862, in Holbeach. I can't find George before 1871. However, I have just come across a George Bird (transcribed as Bend!), born in Norfolk, living in Holbeach in 1861. He is an Ag Lab. Do you think it could be my George?

Have you found him in later census'? Maybe it would give alead on his birth place and year and give more to go on? What was the name of his wife? Nicky.x.

In all the later censuses, he gives his birth place as Holbeach, which is where his wife and first child were born. Her name was Annie.

Can you find a birth registration for one of his children ? The wife´s name on this would help to find the marriage certificate, which in turn would give his father´s name

Georgina, I don't know yet. That's my next problem lol I can't find either Ann of right age in Holbeach in 1861.

Looking at the match at Holbeach in 1851, this George does have a father named Edward. George does go on to name one of his children Edward.. obv not conclusive but does add to the whole picture. What do you think?

THe George born in Norfolk is in Holbeach on both the 51 and 61 so he moved I guess when he was small. Could it be possible his parents filled in the earlier census' therefore putting his correct birth place. He filled in the later ones and wasn't sure - as he grew up in Holbeach - he said Holbeach? Is it a long shot?

He's living on his own in 1861, so he would have done the census. I'm wondering if, because he was married in Holbeach and grew up there, when they asked 'where are you from' he simply replied Holbeach.
