Thanks Vicky, I am searching for my gggrandma she was born in Coalville, around 1880 we think, her name was Lillian Hampson, i have searched on google and Ancestry for her but can't find her. When she was young she ran away from home with her brother because her father was very strict, apparently he was a lay preacher. She later then married Cornelius Thompson and they had 5 children. Herbert, Midge (nickname don't know real one), Alice, (my ggran), David ( died as a young boy from flu epidemic in 1920s), and Clarence ( Cladge), who carried his mothers surname don't know why. Un fortunately i don't have any dates thats why i am having problems , i don't know what to do , i am quite new to this.

You need firstly to find the marriage and obtain the cert. It will tell you her age at the time, plus the name of her father. What is the source of your info about her maiden surname? Start with what you know for sure.................you have the names of the children; when and where was each of the born? Particularly Alice, as she is your direct antecedent............. Reg

Alice Hampson married George Beresford on 3rd Nov 1928. Alice was born 31st march 1902 and died 31st May 1998 aged 90 years. Thanks x

If Alice married George in November 1928 she would be listed in the Dec qtr 1928. The ONLY Alice Hampson marrying in Dec 1928 is to a Jones in Leigh, Lancashire............ i have looked on censuses for Cornelius Thompson the 1901 says he was widowed, herbert is already on there along with a Harry so maybe that was Midge, and a younger sister Clara but maybe she died before Alice came along?? It's all very confusing but i knew it would be after all my living family is just as complicated i think it is genetic!! lol... Sorry Alice was born in 1908 it was George that was born in 1902.

You should have said that you had found her husband on the 1901 as a widower with her children ! What I can't understand is that she had a son David who died as a young lad in the 1920's ........ if Mum had already died before 1901 then he couldn't have been a young lad ...... Is Herbert a child from Cornelius's previous marriage perhaps .... and Lilian was a future wife .... along with HER children from her previous marriage.......... There are no Cornelius Thompson's in Leicestershire on 1901 ............ where are you getting Coalville reference from ?
