so which other people that appear in the 1901 census are siblings to the head of the family you are trying to trace , we must be able to attribute some of the births to them

Hi Shelly Hope you have matched this information up with your thread from the 3rd. Some of it seems to have been duplicated on this thread, which is good as the answers are the same so you must be on the right track ! Good Luck Esta x

Since they are in St Mary in the Castle, Hastings in 1901, they must have moved there after 1891 1891 Icklesham Sussex [I think Icklesham is in Rye reg. district] Deeprose, William abt 1866 Hastings, Sussex Head Deeprose, Annie abt 1868 Lydd, Kent, England Wife Deeprose, Florence S abt 1890 Rye Harbour, Sussex, Daughter

Jess Bow Bag Report 5 Feb 2006 10:24

Ok, lets step back a bit. have you taken the HEAD in the 1901 census ( which ever one is yours) , back as far as you can? Then we can hope to establish which deeproses in sussex are his brothers and sisters, and hang the children on respective parents and see who is left.

Regarding the Hastings/Rye switch, I think the family must have moved to a different area at some point. Hastings Created 1st July 1837. Sub-districts : All Saints; Ore; St. Mary in the Castle; St. Mary Magdalene GRO volumes : VII (1837-51); 2b (1852-1930). Blacklands, Fairlight, Guestling, Hastings, Ore, Pett. Registers now in Hastings & Rother district. Rye Created 1st July 1837. Mainly in Sussex, but included part of Kent. Sub-districts : Beckley; Rye GRO volumes : VII (1837-51); 2b (1852-1930). Beckley, Brede, Broomhill, East Guldeford, Icklesham, Iden, Northiam, Peasmarsh, Playden, Rye, Winchelsea St. Thomas. Registers now divided between Hastings & Rother and Tunbridge Wells districts.

why dont you send for the birth cert of james born battle and see who his parents are before you dismiss him- if he is a Deeprose born Sussex i'd have thought he was yours somewhere in the tree

Shelley

Shelley Report 5 Feb 2006 10:20

Shelley

Shelley Report 5 Feb 2006 10:19

dont know if that james, battle hasnt come up before. so would have to say no. Sorry jess, dont have that info who she married. Family have confused things even more, as just have a list of names. dont know where they all belong.
