Find Ancestors

I have been trying to find a marriage for a guy called Mike on Genes Reunited. I found the family in 1871, 1881,1891 and 1901 census but I am unable to find the marriage for him on Ancestry. Marriage of Barbara Roscamp (correct Spelling of both names) born 1841 and Robert Robson born 1840 or 1841, I am told the marriage was in Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne. Ancestry doesn't give you both names and as there are so many Robert Robson's, I just can't find it. Can anyone please help. Betty

There's a marriage on FreeBMD Mar 1863 Barbara Roscamp & JOHN Robson Newcastle T 10b 136. Bet thats the one and he called himself Robert.but was reg as John. Barbara's name is so distintive I do feel its the right one. Shirley

Hi Brenda, Not married to John Robson, its Robert Robson, this is the prblem I have had with the marriage info. Betty

How can you be sure she is married to Robert,just from the census record? census are only as good as the info given at the time & if John liked to be called Robert then thats how he would be recorded. I have a birth cert where the mum is recorded as annie because her hubby reg the birth & thats what he called her BUT her reg name was Emma Ann. So i wouldnt discount the marraige to JOHN until your absolutely sure its not the right one. everything else,year district, bride ,point inthe right direction. Shirley

Hi Betty How sure is he? For a start Sunderland and Newcastle upon Tyne are totally separate places in different counties so the place of marriage is wrong. It's just as likely the name could also be wrong Cheers Gina
