Darth , Thanks for taking the trouble to look . I can,t actually see them being married at St Columbus unless HE was catholic, but don,t they usually marry by the wife religion? Jessie and May were my grandmothers sister so i know they were not Catholic . Unless they got married in the reg. office . Nothing would surprise me . Cath

Cath - That is a possibility! Another one might be that they married in churches in the neighbouring parish? For many years people living in North Shields had to go to the church in Tynemouth or another nearby church. Sometimes families get into habits that die hard! What I'll do is I'll look in their book where they list what parishes are next door to each other and I'll see what they suggest.

Darth , Thanks , but don,t go wasting to much time on my look ups i know you have a lot of others to do . It just seems so strange for them to got married some where else . They lived in Benton Way in 1901 census and my gran was born there in Oct 1901 . She was still living there in 1973 . North Shield's seem's a long way off to travel for church I know the area well as i was born in Howdon and lived there till my mum died in 1975 when i moved to Yorkshire Cath

I've not had much luck finding time to do lookups this week as work has been very busy (which is why I'm not taking on anymore for the time being). I managed about an hour today and here are the results. I have booked a machine for Monday so perhaps I'll get through a bit more then. Winifred - I checked the parish records for St Bartholomew's Tweedmouth. They didn;'t have marriage records for that period, only Banns. I checked from 1769 to 1776 and couldn't find Thomas Mark and Eleanor Carr. Perhaps they married elsewhere? Deborah - Managed to be an absolute idiot and spent time looking for Blackett not Blanchett! So armed with the correct information I'm going to try again on Monday! If I do find him, fingers crossed I'll be able to give you some good information. I've noticed the baptisms for that period have the mother's father and his occupation and residence mentioned! Linda - I've tried Newcastle All Saints for the period 1830 to 1832 and there were no Martin baptisms at all. There are 3 more Anglican churches to try and then many non-conformist ones. Can you give me any ideas which church I could try looking at? The census returns should give the parish for somewhere like Newcastle. I haven't got access to the Newcastle census returns, but perhaps someone could do a lookup for 1851 to narrow down the search?

Thanks for the help. These two are a real mystery. I have found Eleanors birth but no sign of Thomas so it looks like a dead end. Thanks again Win

Margaret Finch - I looked at the parish baptisms for St John Lee Parish and there were no Hope baptisms between 1878 and 1902 at all. Perhaps she was baptised elsewhere? I'll have a look at some of the nearby parishes in order to find them Tom Bb- I could only find one of those baptisms at Gosforth parish church (St Nicholas). Not sure what to try for the second one. Perhaps they moved? Gosforth St Nicholas Baptisms 3rd July 1826 Elizabeth, parents Gowan and Ann Atkinson, residence = East Brunton, occupation = Husbandman.

Darth, Thankyou SO much Xx That is DEFINITELY him ! He WAS the son of Thomas & the family originated from Wootton Bassett, Wilts ! Census returns state that Ann was from Isle of Wight, but i could never pin her surname down... Fantastic amount of detail there ! Thankyou, i'm so pleased... From Debbie ( Nee Blanchett )
