Seems like its them dont it. Will have to see about getting that certificate soon. If they were brother and sister which it seems very likely how would they have managed to get married? You still needed a birth certificate then didnt you? Perhaps she took someone elses identity....who knows You both deserve a very large drink on me..thanks for all your help could never have done it without you. Am well excited aobut it and a bit gob smacked to. Thanks loads Lorraine

Lorraine

Lorraine Report 13 Jan 2006 16:47

Something else I can add is that around that time they lived in Bow

Lorraine

Lorraine Report 13 Jan 2006 16:48

I mean Poplar

Zoe

Zoe Report 13 Jan 2006 16:51

I don't think they were brother and sister maybe he just said that in the census as there is no sister of that age with them in 1881 and Elaine found her as Mccleod so maybe they were just fibbing..don't ask me why! You did not have to have proof ie birth certs back then Zoe

Elaine

Elaine Report 13 Jan 2006 16:54

I would suggest that you get the marriage certificate of James and Emma - hopefully it will answer some of your questions. Like Zoe said I doubt if they were brother and sister, even though that was what was recorded on the census - she probably didn´t like to admit to the fact that they were living together and not married.
