Hi, I am trying to find details of my husbands father. He gave us the following information before he died - Born James Frederick Weightman on 5/10/1932 At Elepahant & Castle in London Mother Dorothy Perkins Born 1900ish Father James Frederick Harry Weightman Born 1900ish He did have brothers & sisters but we dont have any information for them. He did say there had been a fire at the registry office where his birth was registered & that was why he didnt have a certificate. He didnt really talk much about his family so we were interested as to what we could find. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Keturah xxx

I have checked 1932 and there is no James Frederick but i think this could be his sister Julia D Weightman Mothers maiden name Perkins Jul-Aug-Sep 1932 Maryleborne Vol 1a Page 666 Yvonne

There is no birth registered under the name James Frederick Weightman, or James Frederick Perkins in the last qtr. of 1932 or the first qtr. of 1933. The year of birth must be different. I would think the story of a fire at the register office might have been just that - a story - to hide something he didn't want to discuss. I can't find the parents on the 1901 census. Kath. x

Have found the birth reference for your husband's father. You had the year wrong. James F. Weightman, mother's maiden name Perkins Dec. qtr. 1934, Romford, 4a, 644 You can use this reference to order the birth certificate online from:- www.gro.gov.uk Kath. x

Im just looking through that site now. My other half is questioning wether that is his dad with the year, but i had already thought that there maybe a difference on information they were given. Thank you Kath I am also wondering if the date he gave was correct (5th Oct) but that could be right if it is showing in the Dec qrt of 1934

There is no James Frederick Weightman married 1980 Yvonne

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 27 Oct 2005 22:00

I checked the Dec qtr of 1930 to 1935 and that is the only James F. Weightman born in those years, and with the mother's maiden name being correct, I think it would be too much of a coincidence for it not to be your husband's father. Yvonne is right - their is no marriage for James Frederick Weightman in Dec. qtr 1980. Kath. x

Now its getting stranger. When they both died we couldnt find a marriage certificate but there were members of the family that went to the wedding so it must have happened. James married Hilda Hardy but she had been married before so may have been know as Blount when she married.

Kathleen - i wasn't, caps lock was on, nothing more. i still cant work out who was married in 1980

KathleenBell

KathleenBell Report 27 Oct 2005 22:08

Jess, Sorry, thought you were shouting. The marriage in 1980 is the second marriage of Keturah's father in law - James Frederick Weightman, who was born in 1932 (or 1934 as we have now found out). Kath. x

Could i search somewhere under my mother in laws details to find her marriages and go from there? I have one marriage certificate but that is from the previous marriage which was dissolved but that wouldnt be much use in this search i dont think. Ket xx

Keturah

Keturah Report 27 Oct 2005 22:11

Yep the marriage was between James Frederick Weightman (my father in law) & Hilda Gladys Hardy (her maiden name) or Hilda Gladys Blount (a previous married name)

KathleenBell Report 27 Oct 2005 22:11

Keturah, If you want to be certain you get the correct birth certificate, you can order it with the reference I found, and you can give his parent's names as a checking point. That way they will only issue the certificate if the parents are the right ones. If they are not, then you will only lose £3 for the search instead of £7 for the wrong certificate. Kath. x
