1881c also gives Mddx as place of birth and calculates year of birth as 1843. Mddx birthplace looks fairly secure.

1837... 1843b's 7 Ellen Mills' (including St Lukes) but other six outside Mddx & London. The elusive Purple Pumpernickel!

Many thanks Jude. I'm starting to wonder if the St Lukes one is actually mine. But why would she be single and with her family in 1861 if she's married and with her husband as well? Her father is a Capenter though, and mine said hers was a Labourer in 1860.

1837on... 1844b's ten, yes ten Ellen Mills', ALL outside Mddx & London. I notice that two out of yr four censuses calculate 1841 as year of birth. We have eliminated 1842 - 1844 on 1837on... so the 1841 Whitechapel one really is looking like the best bet as previously suggested by Elaine. best wishes with this one!

Babe, I've scoured 1851 ........ every Ellen born 1840-1845 (middlesex) and every Ellen born Sheffield 1843-45. Every John Mills and every Mills in Middlesex .... none have a daughter Ellen (Can't find the one found earlier !!!! ) It is possible I suppose that the parents were expecting Ellen to be with them the night of the census and she didn't turn up .... but they SHOULD have her down as married even then ? .... so if it were my family I really would give that family a miss. Could they have been in Wales or Scotland by any chance ? ... any things possible I suppose. Make sure you use John as a checking reference ... if its NOT correct, then at least they give you £3 back. Good Luck Tracy, I've crossed my toes, feet, legs, fingers, arms and eye's for you !... in respect of the Whitechaple one. Elaine :-) ... who now has a phobia about 1851 census's !!!

I just checked Wales - didn't think of that - couldn't see her as Mil* anything. Also tried Isle of Man and Channel Isles. I put John on the request, so if it's not her, at least I'll know soon. Thanks for all you've done for me Elaine :)

Thanks Yvonne. I'll just have to wait till I hear from the GRO. I don't think the marriage has been transcribed yet, but they married on 2 Jan 1860.
