Hi, I am looking for a Henry Andrew Hawkins, I am not sure of his birth year but he has a son James who was born in 1871. He was his youngest son I think so I am guessing he was born around 1841 ish. James married and died in Sheffield but I have been told that James went to sea at the age of 13, possibly from Strood/ StroudI know I am doing a lot of guessing but this is all I have from James marriage cert in 1917. Any help would be much appreciated as I am really really stuck Thanks Zoe :)

When did he die? What's his occupation on the marriage cert?

Hi Lou, I am not sure when Henry Andrew died but was not alive on James marriage cert in 1917. I have been told that James went to sea at 13 around the time his father died which would have been about 1884. James died in 1948. Thanks this is a real puzzle to me Zoe :))

If James married in 1917 and was born in 1871 that makes him 46 when he got married Is that right?

Hi Sarah, Henry was an engine driver as far as I can see and James was a Hall Porter. I can't even find James on any census records though. Thanks Zoe

Hi Zoe I think I'd be tempted to try and locate the father's death and get the certificate. It would give you an address that could be checked on the census before and a better idea of when Henry Andrew was born Lou

Lou, Have you any ideas where or how to search for his death. Thanks Zoe :)

Not a clue, sweetie! There's nothing on freebmd or ancestry but they aint complete Try family rellies if you have any credits left. You'll probably have to do a search, say 1880 to 1890 for Henry Hawkins seeing as you can't use initials as a criteria but hopefully you might get one with Andrew as a middle name Worth a shot!
