Hi Dawn, I doubt it as my lot were from Charlbury OXF - pity though it would be something to put with the tree - still never mind if I ever come accross an ag lab road or a gwr railway worker road in my neck of the woods that will be more apt for my lot. All the very best Phil

There is a little programe called 'Gedmark' which stamps your identity on any ged files you may distribute or download to sites like GR, so your intellectual ownership is always recorded however often the file may be passed on. This of course doesn't prevent anyone copying your info line by line. dave

Hi Deborah, Yes I know we have to take it all in our stride but it still hurts when you are let down by someone - still I put it down to poor research as a good researcher will always (where possible) chesk their data against the parish registers as they are one of our best source materials. Hi Karin, No the GOMM's I am descended from are from Charlbury Oxfordshire & I was told by bot my granddad & his sister that we are relaited to the G plan GOMME's ( I wish I knew where they got their E from) but so far have not tried to prove it. All the very best Phil

Are you related to the Gomms at all from Chickerell in Dorset?I went to school with a Stuart and Martin Gomm think there was a few others in that area to Karin

i think its quite sad that people may feel they should no longer help other researchers on this site just because a few may not treat the information provided to them in the correct manner. for those people just starting out they may not have any information that can be traded so may spend a large amount of time looking for something that could be solved quite quickly if it wern't for those giving others reason to distrust. in addition if they are truely interested in finding out information about their families they are going to go out and check anything they recieve before listing it on this site as accurate otherwise what would be the point. those that don't check the information are best ignored.

Philip, First of all I agree entirely with what is being said in the thread. Unfortunately, there is no 'copyright' on our tree information. I normally won't give anything away until I have some sort of confirmation that the person on the otherside is genuine and can give me some infomation back to prove this. I would not worry too much - if this person wants to be a tw...t then it is her loss, not ours. Secondly, my reference to Ian Gomm. Ian was a friend of ours in the '70's. I was (sorry) being a little mischevious in asking if you knew who he was. This is his website, if you would like to have a gander http://www.iangomm*com/ (Methinks the picture is a b...i...t old!) I gather that the Gomms were rather unique in that they were originally only to be found in Buckinghamshire. This means that most are inter-related but makes it a devil of a job to work out who is related to who. Best regards, Peter

Hi Lou, I know the object of our hobby is to share info (which I have no objection to doing) but I draw the line at someone taking a large piece of info sent to them for their private study & then see them publish that info on a web site they happen to have - (granted this info does belong in their tree but was only brought to light by me - this line cost me a lot of money in certificates & research documents not to mention my own time (several years) - this would not have been so bad if the person concerned had not altered the spelling of the surnmaes to fit her own tree. Hi Janet, The anoying part is that the line I sent to the person I warned against does belong in her tree but not with the mis spelling she gave them all - but this line was uknown to her until I sent it for private study only. All the very best Phil

Hi Helen, I know that noone can change a tree on this site without the owners password but the person I issued this warning about was sent a line of research by me to study privately & was not for publication (which is the first thing that was done) - but just the same the line I sent was added to her internet tree & the names changed to fit in with her own research (all be it somewhat flawed) - I was also added to the tree as a source - I also know that the person concerned is a member of this site as I found myself on her tree here but complained about it & was removed from her genes tree ONLY. I hope you see why I am angry. All the very best Phil
