Haha! Well her big sister and younger brother were very involved with the church, so I suppose she could have done a few christenings in her spare time! nell

Nell Still can't find her! Are you sure she didn't emigrate for a time and then come back??? Or maybe she got married, got widowed and went back to calling herself Smoothy? Or maybe I'm clutching at straws now!!! Lou

How wierd! I already have the Smoothys in 1871, but I was looking at that Timothy family and thinking Timothy, John DR, what a coincidence, my gt grandfather was John David Robert Smoothy - and then I saw the father b. Chelmsford, just like my gt gt grandfather the beadle, and his wife in Stoke [actually Stoke Poges] - it IS my family! I can only assume that whoever mistranscribed Emily as a Timothy in 1891 has done the same with the family in 1871. Thank you all again for the time & trouble you have taken to look for me. I am sooo grateful. nell

Wow! Back after watching ER and lots of progress on this thread! If you look at the image of the 1871 Timothys on Ancestry, it is actually the Smoothy family, so it looks like a match to me. Louise

Esta Thanks anyway, I can look it up when I next go to the FRC - you have given me the gen, for which I am very grateful. If it makes you feel better, Emily's mum and dad's address in Richmond in the commercial directories was 'Old Burying Ground' - they had a lovely view of the graves. Lou I'm getting very excited now! Fingers crossed. nell

Nell......I'm really sorry I can't email the image to you ( That's why I put all the ref numbers on for you ) I'm sure someone can email it to you. Just been trying 1881 but no luck. She's not with the same family ( that would have been too easy ). I have 'family' in Paddington in 1881/1891 but mine are all in slums or tiny houses with about 20 to a room.......why can't mine be in the posh area like yours, even as housemaids..!! Esta

Esta Wow! I am impressed! Mind you, as I found her brother on the 1901 census as 'Lenorthey' I can't say 'Timothy' was that much of a surprise! What a shame that the census filler-inners didn't do plain capitals when writing. It makes it soooo hard when the first initial is wrong. More grateful than I can say - any chance you could e-mail me the image? nell
